At the beginning of development, Nuclear Throne was created in Game Maker 7 before transitioning to Game Maker Studio to develop the rest of the product, a decision the team later found cumbersome. During this game jam the two created a game called Wasteland Kings which later became the prototype to Nuclear Throne. Jan Willem Nijman and Rami Ismael were invited by Notch, to participate in a 48-hour charity game jam called Mojam Humble in 2013. A friend of Kallio's, Joonas Turner, worked on the sound effect design. Nuclear Throne 's music was composed by Jukio Kallio, who had composed for several previous Vlambeer titles. The game's promotional art was drawn by Justin Chan, an art student hired on the basis of his fan art for early releases of the game. Paul Veer, who had previously animated Vlambeer's Super Crate Box, returned to contribute art to Nuclear Throne. Vlambeer's Jan Willem Nijman and Rami Ismail served as the game's designer and producer, respectively, and shared the development work. The developers theorize each new run as a new alternate universe, a universe where everybody is alive and they have yet to decide who will attempt to complete the task. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the characters, called mutants, of Nuclear Throne have collected together with the aim of travelling throughout the world to reach the Nuclear Throne. Most canon information revealed by the developers was done during development livestreams. Most of the theories and speculations have formed from analyzing the game's world, environment details and loading tips. The plot of Nuclear Throne has been discussed amongst the community as a result of the developer's minimal contributions. Aside from certain melee weapons, weapons consume one of five different ammo types (bullet, energy, shell, bolt, and explosive). After looping the game, special "golden" and "ultra" weapons become available. The weapons available to the player get increasingly advanced and powerful as the enemies become increasingly difficult and numerous. The player can have two weapons equipped at any time, such as a shovel and an assault rifle. The player starts with the basic revolver, but they may upgrade by taking weapons from red chests and collect more ammunition from yellow chests. Upon reaching level 10, the player can choose a character-specific "ultra-mutation". The game has a leveling system, where the player gains experience in the form of radiation pellets, or "rads", dropped by enemies, that allow them to get different mutations and choose what would benefit the character the most out of a selection of four, randomly selected mutations. Except for special weapons acquired in a hidden level and "crowns" retained until after defeating the final boss, anything acquired in one playthrough does not carry over to the next. The user may continue looping indefinitely until death. After this, the player may choose to loop to the beginning of the game again with a greatly increased difficulty. The player progresses through the linear level structure until level 7-3, where the final boss, the Nuclear Throne, has to be defeated. Secondary sprites or skins can be acquired for the characters played if the player completes special or secret tasks. These individual abilities allow for different play-styles, improving the variety and replay value of the game. Each character has an ability unique to them, adding an additional element to the gameplay. Two additional secret characters can only be played under special circumstances during play. The player controls one of a total of 12 characters, 10 of which must be unlocked through play. There are also daily and weekly challenge modes, allowing the player to compete against others via the Steam platform for the best score (determined by the number of kills in the playthrough), on the same set of randomly generated levels. The game consists of two main game modes: single-player, and a local cooperative gameplay mode. Nuclear Throne is a top-down shooter roguelike game with bullet hell elements.

But how did the walkers get into the compound in the first place? Simon explained later, when he arrived with his tooled up goons: they had arranged the invasion so the Hilltop denizens could appreciate their need for the Saviours’ services. The fugitive women proved their worth, but Gregory still wanted them gone. If only the rest of Rick’s crew could have provided such an effective pest control service in season six. Only these two women, plus Jesus, took out the zombie trash – Maggie reversed over several in a souped-up tractor, while Sasha offed them with short sharp stabs to the head. Maggie and Sasha woke to find the Hilltop’s gates opened, fires burning inside the compound and classical music blaring to attract hordes of walkers. This last fact made the episode’s showpiece scene quite compelling. Similarly, the milling hordes of undead beyond the Hilltop walls may exist but the citadel’s citizens never have to confront them, still less get up close and homicidal with them. Death is something intolerable, so its signs need to be erased. “The idea,” he replied, “was just to keep going.” The implication was that the Hilltop exists as a kind of organised denial of the harsher realities of post-apocalyptic life. Maggie asked Jesus, Gregory’s rebellious underling, why. Gregory complained about the graves at the Hilltop, the custom was not to bury but burn the dead. After all, she reasoned, she didn’t need anything to remember Glenn by – the suggestion being that her looming baby would be reminder enough.) (Later still, Maggie retrieved it and gave the heirloom to Enid. Another sign that he is not to be trusted. She placed a family heirloom watch that she had given Glenn on his grave – then later spotted that Gregory had stolen it. Maggie is staying at the Hilltop, ideally until she gives birth, because there she will receive the medical care she needs (I’m no doctor, but separation of the placenta from Maggie’s uterus doesn’t sound a negligible injury).Īt the Hilltop, she and Sasha visited the graves of their loved ones Glenn and Abraham, both of whom were battered to death by Negan. Did one of the freshly dug graves at Alexandria contain her and her unborn child? That was certainly what Rick, Michonne and Father Gabriel managed to dupe Negan into believing last week, though we knew better: that she was still alive. Nice to see her again: ever since she witnessed Negan off her husband Glenn with a baseball bat, we’ve been worrying what happened to her. The episode began with an extreme close-up of Maggie. Gregory, in his more lucid though cowardly moments, made it plain he was prepared to sacrifice these fugitives rather than risk reprisals for being found out for harbouring the women. The tension, such as it was, revolved around the possibility that Gregory – morally invertebrate and apparently falling prey to dementia – would surrender not just whisky and paintings to the Saviours, but two renegade women from Rick’s Alexandria crew, Maggie and Sasha. “From now on I’m your Negan,” Simon told Gregory, the leader of the – frankly effete – Hilltop compound’s citizens when he and his Saviours goons came to exact their tribute. Divertingly Southern retro 70s vibe … Simon with Gregory. Tis turned her head so she could look up at Zaya. you are worried what we may find up there.” Zaya said as she eyed her avian friend. Tis then walked up and grabbed a needle rifle and holstered it on her back. She taught Zaplak so many things once they met each other, Zaplak only does maintenance now since that is the only role he can perform right now. Even though Zaplak performs maintenance on their weapons, Tis does so much better with them. She was planning to bring her sword, but should she need her plasma repeater as well? “Why not? We do not truly know what lurks out there.” She turned to see Tis doing some final tuning to her needler. Zaya was going through the weapons she was going to bring with her. He took one last breath and opened the door and began his long march. He needed to leave now before he burns anymore time, he doesn’t know just how long the flood will remain dormant for, but he needs those supplies regardless. “Then, make sure to come back safe! I can’t perform my duties if you die.” Rust patted the large talking orb before turning back to the door. You are still a ring monitor.” Rust wrote down before turning the pad to Tangent. “No, we don’t know what else is out there, I know you said that you believed those tracks to belong to some space chicken, but in the low chance that it’s a Jackal or worse a Skirmisher they’ll be after you more than they would be me. “I know I stated that the flood receded, however I believe I can still be of use searching for any stragglers.” Rust shook his head and took the pad out of his pocket. are you absolutely sure you do not want me to escort you?“ Tangent asked. He carries them to remind himself not to get complacent, he managed to avoid the flood so far but only because he never stopped thinking, the moment he lets his guard down out there, he’s dead. He then opened the pocket near his chest and held up 4 dog tags, he spent an entire year hunting down the rest of Plague Squadron in order to give them a proper send off. He shifted his shoulders, it’s not often he wears a backpack, but he will need it to haul any extra supplies he plans to bring. He paused to do one final check on his supplies, He had his pistol, his smg, and all the ammo he had for the respective weapons. Rust approached the blast door leading out to the outside. The tendency, in turn, is reinforced by frequent interactions and influences that promote or approve of criminal behavior. Thus, he proposed that “an individual will choose the criminal path when the balance of definitions for law-breaking exceeds those for law-abiding” (“Differential Association Theory,” 2020), and they will have a higher tendency to commit crimes. Sutherland’s theory attempts to dismantle the institutional belief that only poor people commit crimes as well as the psychological assumption that criminals had different psychological and biological makeup than law-abiding citizens. However, the theory does not attempt to explain why someone may choose to commit a crime. This theory expounds on the learning process of a criminal-how they see a crime or how they begin to see crime as an option, how they rationalize committing a crime, and how they learn the techniques to commit the crime (“Differential Association Theory,” 2020). The Theory of Differential AssociationĮdwin Sutherland’s Theory of Differential Association proposes that individuals learn criminal behavior through interactions with others. ThisĮxpounds on Sutherland’s theory of differential association and presents the criticisms it has received from experts thereafter. He formulated the theory of differential association which proposed that criminal behavior is learned systematized ideas to explain criminal behavior. He is a former President of the White-Collar Crime Research Consortium, and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Division of Critical Criminology (ASC). He is the author of Trusted Criminals: White Collar Crime in Contemporary Society 4E (Cengage, 2010) and Law in Our Lives: An Introduction 3E (OUP, 2012), co-author (with Dawn Rothe) of Crimes of Globalization (Routledge, 2015) and editor of State Crime I & II (Ashgate, 1998). What can and should Sutherland mean to future 21st century criminologists, those working in the field say between 20, or some one hundred years after the 1921 to 1950 period that encompassed Sutherland's criminological career? Which dimensions of Sutherland's work have best survived the march of time and which are most likely to - and deserve to - survive going forward? Making the case that Sutherland is important to both mainstream and critical criminologists, to positivistic criminologists and those who study crimes of the powerful, this book is essential reading for both students and scholars interested in exploring the enduring legacy of this key thinker in criminology.ĭavid Friedrichs is Distinguished Professor of Sociology, Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of Scranton (Pennsylvania, USA). This book explores the contemporary meaning of Edwin Sutherland and considers why criminologists today should continue to engage with his work. He is especially well-known for his path-breaking criminology textbook (first published in 1924), his promotion of a sociological (and scientific) approach to the understanding of crime and its control, his theory of differential association, and his work over his final ten years on white-collar crime, a term he is credited with having introduced. Sutherland is widely identified as the single most important and influential criminologist of the twentieth century. They may have trouble bringing the entire cast back. “There is progress, ” Bier said about the show’s next season, “but nothing that I can talk of.” If you ask Bier, there’s only one thing for sure right now: the series is moving forward, even if she can’t reveal much. After coming across some important documents, he turns them into the British government. Hiddleston played Jonathan Pine, a night manager of a hotel in Cairo, Egypt who was once a British soldier.
